Review of Yankee Doodle Dandy (98)

After letting the list slide for a month, we finally sat down and watched the 98th entry on the list, Yankee Doodle Dandy, on a Saturday night with our friend Jason Kuntz. Boy, were the three of us in for a treat.

Plot
From his early days as a child-star in his family's vaudeville show up to the time of his comeback at which he received a medal from the president for his special contributions to the US, this is the life- story of George M. Cohan, who produced, directed, wrote and starred in his own musical shows for which he composed his famous songs.

Jason’s Thoughts
Wow, that was two hours of my life I won’t ever get back. I’m not really sure why this movie made it on the list – and even went up three spots from the same list 10 years ago. I am well aware that there will be some variety in this list of movies and I am going in to each movie with an open mind. With that said, I’m sure this movie was once enjoyable for people who grew up around the time it was released in the 1940’s, but in my mind, it hasn’t stood the test of time and it pained me to watch it. Prior to viewing this movie I had little idea who George Cohan was, and after watching it for two hours, I could have cared less about Mr. Cohan and his music. Hopefully things will be better from here on out.

Crystal’s Thoughts
First off, I have to say how proud I am of surviving this entire movie. There were points that I thought that I couldn't take another second. I guess you know then what this means for my review. I didn't like this movie at all... I am hoping none of the movies left are as bad as this (with 97 to go though...). I am not sure at all how this movie even made the list! Maybe there is some criteria I am not aware of, but all in all, I do not recommend this movie. Unless you take a nap during it and with all the music, it likely won't suffice that purpose either.
